Troca Shell
Troca buttons are carved from Trochus shells, a type of sea snail, and are less expensive than genuine mother of pearl buttons while maintaining a lot of the same qualities.
We have many, many different styles of shell buttons, each sourced from different areas of the world. The various shellfish that provide the shell are used for food and animal feed, while the shell is up-cycled for use in other industries, like fashion. The majority of the shell we currently sell is farm raised in the pacific region of the world, but brought to Europe where they’re cut into buttons - since production takes place in Italy, the workers are able to collect a livable wage for their work.
